Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Cartesian Theatre Corp. ("we", "us", "our") handles personal information. It applies to our website, to the Affidavit Bundler software, and to our dealings with customers and enquirers generally.
1. What we collect
We collect personal information of the following kinds:

Contact and business information you give us, such as your name, your organisation, your address, your email address and telephone number when you enquire, request a quote, obtain support, or become a customer.

Licence information, identifying who a licence has been issued to and recording its use, which our software provides to us when it verifies that a licence is valid.

Billing information relating to payments you make. Payment card details are collected and held by our payment processor, not by us.

Technical information generated automatically when you use our website or our software, such as network addresses, device and software characteristics, and records of requests made to our systems.
We do not collect the contents of the documents you prepare with our software.
2. Why we collect it
We use personal information to:
- respond to enquiries and provide quotes;
- issue, verify, administer and support licences;
- take payment and maintain our financial records;
- communicate with you about your licence, our software and your enquiries;
- operate, secure, maintain and improve our website, our software and our systems;
- understand how our products are used; and
- comply with the law, and establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
3. Consent
We collect, use and disclose personal information with your consent, which may be express or implied by the circumstances, or where legislation permits or requires us to do so without it.
You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide our software or services to you, because verifying a licence requires processing the information described above.
4. Disclosure
We do not sell personal information.
We disclose personal information to service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as payment processing, hosting, communications, backup and professional services, and only so far as they need it for that purpose. We also disclose personal information where the law requires or permits it, including in response to a subpoena, warrant, court order or other lawful demand, and in connection with the sale, merger or reorganisation of our business.
Our service providers may be located outside Canada. Personal information held outside Canada is subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is held, and may be accessible to the courts, law enforcement and authorities of that jurisdiction.
Some parts of our website cause your browser to request content directly from third-party services, so that the page can show you current information. Those services necessarily receive your network address in order to answer the request.
5. Retention
We keep personal information for as long as it serves the purposes described above, and for as long afterwards as is necessary for legal or business purposes. Information may remain in backups after it has been removed from our active systems.
6. Safeguards
We protect personal information with security safeguards appropriate to its sensitivity, including physical, organisational and technological measures. No safeguard is perfect, and we cannot guarantee the security of information transmitted over the Internet.
7. Access and correction
You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, how it has been used, and to whom it has been disclosed, and you may ask us to correct it if it is inaccurate. Write to us at the address in section 10. We will respond within the time the law allows, and will explain our reasons if we are unable to provide access to some or all of the information.
8. Questions and complaints
If you have a question or complaint about how we handle personal information, write to our Privacy Officer at the address in section 10. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia.
9. Changes to this policy
We may change this policy. The current version is the one posted here, with the date shown at the top.
